It’s winter babyyy and hey… it’s cold outside. Winter coats are a must right now, especially in the midwest and the east coast. I’m a REAL coat lover so I embrace this season because it allows me to add new pieces to my wardrobe.
And since I’m a coat lover I believe that you should have several coats for this time of year, if your budget will allow.
Choosing the perfect winter coat depends on a few factors:
- The climate that you reside in
- The style of coat that best suits your lifestyle
- The type of fit and length you prefer

What’s your climate?
Depending on where you live, the weather will always determine the type of coat you wear. Or, if you need to wear one at all.
As a native midwesterner, I’m blessed to see distinct season changes. This allows me the ability to switch coats throughout the seasons.
Goose down filled coats are perfect for those who live in the colder climate while a heavy trench coat may work better in a slightly warmer environment.
Style of Coat
Coats come in many different styles. There’s my favorite, the trench coat, there are peacoats, wrap coats, puffer coats and the list goes on. But, what is the best coat for your lifestyle?
Are you an at home mom, on the go with kids and need something durable and easy to throw on and off?
Or, maybe you’re a young professional who meets face to face with clients everyday and you need a dressier coat.
Perhaps, you tend to spend many hours outdoors and need a coat that’s suitable for the coldest of temperatures.
No matter what stage you’re at in life, there’s a coat to fit your lifestyle.

The Fit of a coat
Being a stylish fashionista I typically prefer a winter coat that provides shape. Most of my coats have belts, which assist in accentuating my waist line.
There are straight cut coats, peplum, princess cut and many others. And, of course all of these coats vary in length. However, choosing the correct fit of coat and getting the most flattering fit has a lot to do with your natural body shape.
The way that you wear clothes that align with your body type, is the same mindset to have when selecting your outerwear.
Here are a few winter coat options that will fit every lifestyle, climate and style preference.
